Former NBA star Chris Herren, author of the book "Basketball Junkie'' and the subject of an ESPN documentary, is scheduled to give a talk Thursday at the Wall High School north gym.
The free event begins at 8 p.m. Herren also will be speaking to high school juniors and seniors Friday.
Herren played for the Denver Nuggets and the Boston Celtics during his NBA career. But in 2004, he was charged with heroin possession and driving under the influence with a revoked license. After completing intensive rehabilitation programs, Herren has been alcohol and drug-free since 2008.
Herren has since launched a program to mentor young players and one to assist young addicts through recovery.
His memoir was released in 2011, documenting his career on and off the court.
Herren is also the subject of the ESPN documentary "Unguarded," detailing his rise, fall and redemption in the world of sports.
