Consolation Prize for Christie Enthusiasts?

Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan selected as GOP nominee, while NJ governor may serve as convention keynote speaker.

After months of rumors that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie would be tapped as the GOP vice president nomineee, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney instead on Saturday chose Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan for the spot

Christie may now have the opportunity to serve as the GOP convention's keynote speaker later this month in Tampa, Fla. Being named the keynote speaker could open the door for Christie to run in 2016 and still allow him to serve a second term as governor.

The New Jersey governor, who in the past has stated he was not interested in the vice presidential nomination, may have ultimately lost out in the long run due to his short fuse and short record. In just the last month, Christie branded a reporter as an "idiot" down in Monmouth County and confronted an unknown resident on the Seaside Heights boardwalk.

Several Republicans who were in Norfolk, Va., during Romney's announcement told NJ.com that Christie needs to "tone down the smack talk" and "would have overshadowed Romney" during the campaign.

Romney's decision was lauded by New Jersey Republicans, Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen, 11th District, said, “I am pleased that Governor Romney has chosen one of our House leaders to be his running mate. My colleague, Paul Ryan, is young, very intelligent and will be an excellent Vice President.”

U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez also issued a statement, "Mitt Romney has shown that he means business in his war against America's middle class by choosing as his running mate the architect of the budget plan that favors the nation's wealthiest people and corporations," Menendez stated.

"Four years of a Romney-Ryan administration would be disastrous for New Jersey’s middle class, who have shouldered too much of the tax burden. As a result of Rep. Ryan’s proposed budget, seniors on fixed incomes would face greater hardship, as there would be an end to Medicare as we know it, and the Social Security system they spent most of their lives paying into would be privatized and subjected to the whims of the stock market. Proposed budget cuts would kill job growth and set back the fragile economic recovery. All of these would take a significant step forward to becoming reality with the election of Romney and Ryan."

Christie has done S*&T for NJ. He put this state into even more of a crazy house. Corizine wasn't great, and there was stuff he has done that I didn't agree with, but you can only do so much and have limited time to fix big problems that past Republican Govenors have put us in. Republicans are never for the middle class, and it's sad that some people don't realise that. However, it has gotten to the point where I can't trust neither of the parties. I want a leader who can work with all of the classes and find solutions.

Christie has done nothing at all, but get himself involved in this race for president. I thought his name was NOT on the list of speakers that was announced a few days ago. I wish someone would tell me what he has done. If he does speak at the convention the whole country will see what a low class jerk is running this state. What an embarrassment that will be!!!

and lets face facts. Christie is no different from any NJ Governor since Florio. They move the money around and never address the problem. Christie has robbed the townships of cash shifted the shell and it is under reported because what sells papers is his big mouth.

Romney is the McNabb to Christie's T.O.

He just couldn't handle the talented but slightly insane guy who may have won him the big one. So he picked the equivalent of James Thrash.

Thank you Governor Christie for adding BILLIONS of dollars of Debt to our state. For disenfranchising our state workers, calling our military vets idiots, telling our teachers they didn’t have to be teachers, for stealing state worker pensions, for taking over the failed casinos and race tracks, and for adding the casino and race track employee’s payroll to our tax payroll. Without you we could never have created the over 1000 additional state supervisor positions you gave your donators at an average cost of $141,000.00 each in payroll, not including pension and benefits.
You fudged the Race to the Top application costing our schools over $450 million, making our taxes go sky high. How dare those teachers try to submit a good application? Your actions will teach them a lesson. You even got away with stealing $291 million from the ARC Tunnel that we now have to repay the Federal Government.
You took away the homestead rebate for a year then cut the income limits by 50% and payments by 75%, after all why not? It’s not like the people receiving this tax overpayment refund were millionaires, right? You even went and changed the law to instill a 2% tax hike then exceeded that same cap by almost 7% every year and without a vote, you’re record is brilliant! The legislature could have never accomplished any of these feats without your incompetence. With all you accomplished I cannot understand why Mitt Romney did not choose you as his VP, that’s a disgrace.

I am very surprised at the comments hurled against Gov. Christie......after the horrific Corzine regime. Or perhaps it is just those who personally benefited from Corzine's giveaways to the unions and leaving this state in shambles. Corzine failed, AGAIN, after leaving NJ and lost the savings of many people through his shady Wall Street doings. He somehow aludes punishment. As for Sen. Menendez, God help us........he should be out in the street. The only way he has survived is through scare tactics and promises to his own base. Politicians in general are self servicing.........as opposed to serving those who elected them. Will we ever learn???? Sadly from these posts, it is highly doubtful.

Simple refuse to except the raises they got for you, you and your family
refuse to use the health and dental care they worked out for you, pay full price
at hospitals, refuse to except one penny of the retirement plan they worked out for you. Take a stand. There is nothing forcing you to use thes benefits.
The percentage of union workers in the U.S. was only about 11.8 in 2011
to 20.1 in 1983.

Its such a joke to say that unions are what is wrong with NJ. There are far more issues at play here. At least people in a union are WORKING! And trying to pay their own way in life....how about all our tax money that goes to care for the kids of people who do nothing but sit on their @ss all day with their hand out. The schools offer free lunch and even free breakfasts now for those who "qualify"...who do you think pays for that? Lots of good ol working ppl....many of whom are in unions. And for the person who is shocked at the anti Christie comments, citing that corzine was so bad....yes, he was a moron too. But does that mean his successor automatically deserves praise? No. We've got to do better than both of them.

Sunday’s Asbury Park Press; a publication which normally manages to slant all their stories, new clips & reader letters, to the right, published a list depicting all the states that Governor ‘Travel man’ has been to for the purposes of campaigning and all on our dime. This poor excuse for a governor has spent more time out of state than a traveling salesman. Not only has he neglected his job as Governor of the state but what about his family OMG! What kind of a family man is he, his wife and kids never get to see him. But I suppose that if he doesn’t care about his wife and kids, it’s for damn sure he doesn’t care about us the taxpayers of NJ. My question to Governor Lard is, “Where do you plan on working at your next job.”

It’s human nature; individuals tend to gravitate to those similar to themselves and who display the same social characteristics as they do. Chances are many of the individuals who back this ‘poor excuse for a man’ are probably confrontational themselves and demonstrate the same type of behavior characteristics. In the human behavior field it is known as Type A behavior. But this is a democracy and it is my contention that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, in my opinion this man is a junk yard attack dog and an embarrassment to New Jersey.

And what has he done for us? Are you better off now than before he was elected? Has he lowered your taxes? Has he created jobs? Has he improved the quality of life for residents of NJ? College enrollments are down 30%, the public school system is a shambles and now towns & communities are forced to share services. People never learn, every time they put a republican in office the working class gets clobbered.
