Eva Applegate Takes Over As School Board President
Joseph Tonzola will continue in Veep spot
The Wall Township Board of Education on Thursday voted in a longtime member to the panel’s top spot.
Eva Applegate at the board’s organization meeting was tapped by the 9-member panel to become this year’s president.
Former board President John Tavis nominated Applegate for the presidency. There were no other nominations.
The vote to install Applegate was 8-1. Board member Donald Herbert cast the lone vote against.
Joseph Tonzola, in his second year on the board, will continue on as the board’s vice president. Tonzola’s nomination -- made by board member Robin Cervantes -- also was unchallenged. The vote was 8-0, with Tonzola abstaining.
New board members Robin Zawodniak and Kenneth J. Dioguardi and Mary Catherine McCarthy, as well as former board President John Tavis, were also sworn in to their terms during the brief meeting.
Zawodniak, Dioguardi and Tavis will begin their three-year terms after winning their seats in an uncontested election. McCarthy, who was appointed to fill the seat left by board member Laurie Cannon, who abruptly resigned last year, was sworn in to fill out the remaining year of Cannon’s term.
The meeting concluded about 15 minutes.

Congratulations Eva, for your long service to the students of Wall. Many more of them.
Really?

I second that Guntoter66. 28 years of service to Wall Township Schools has to be a record and no one has done it more selflessly. A huge Thanks to John Tavis for leading the Board through a year of troubles and now with the newly sworn in members it's time to get back to business. Herbert on the other hand needs to resign. It certainly seems he can't let go of yesterday. Perhaps he should follow those he holds in such high regard and find the door.
