UPDATE: Afternoon Manhunt Ends In Arrest of Parolee
Man fled after traffic stop near Exit 98
A Pequannock man wanted on parol violations was caught around 7 p.m. tonight after he fled on foot following an afternoon traffic stop, bringing out police dogs, a state police helicoptor and a phalanx of officers tracking the man.
Kevin T. Brown, 37, was arrested after a 7-hour manhunt in a woodeded area around Garden State Parkway mile marker 97.6, according to Wall Police Sgt. Joseph Wilbert.
Brown was charged with one count each of second-degree aggravated assault, third degree resisting arrest, fourth degree hindering, fourth degree obsruction, fourth degree criminal mischief, fourth degree causing or risking widespread injury or damage, Tresspassing and disorderly conduct, Wilbert said.
Brown is being held at the Monmouth County Jail, Freehold Township, in lieu of $23,200.00 bail, set by Wall Township Municipal Court Judge Joseph Defino.
Shortly before noon, Patrolman Justin Hudson stopped Brown's vehicle on the Parkway near mile marker 98, just south of Route 138, for failure to make reapairs, Wilbert said.
Brown, who had active warrants out of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office for parole violations, fled on foot, crossing all lanes of the Parkway, Wilbert said.
The Wall Township Police Department, New Jersey State Police, New Jersey Park Police, Howell Township Police Department and Monmouth County Division of Shade Tree assisted in the search, Wilbert said.
One Wall police officer, unnamed by Wilbert, was injured in the search. He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, with non-life-threatening injures. He was later released, Wilbert said.
------ EARLIER UPDATE ---------
The heavy police presence in the area of Route 34 and Allenwood Road is gone, as traffic from the Garden State Parkway flows freely onto the state highway where just an hour ago a State Police helicoptor circled and a phalanx of marked and unmarked police cars gathered.
As of 3:45 p.m. there was still no official word on what took place around 2 p.m. at the busy intersection. Witnesses in the area have said the police were looking for a man who took off on foot near the Trinity Solar facility following a traffic stop.
The township's CODE RED system was not triggered by the incident.
This is a developing story. Updates to follow.

The helicopter was still searching at about 6:55pm. When I called police because I was at a house over there, they told me he had just been caught around 7:05. I did see the helicopter go in almost to the ground at that time..

I was riding my bike down Allaire Rd towards 34 when a cop pulled over, got out and pointed his gun at my face and ordered my hands up then I was tackled to the ground and handcuffed. Minutes later they let me go of course but it was pretty scary I thought the dude was gonna shoot me...

This happened in my neighborhood where kids are always playing so I am glad that they got him! Wall is a great town I just wish the parkway didn't cut through it cause we get random weirdos every so often near 34, 195/138 and parkway exits and of course around Belmar in the summer ;)
