Lavallette Man Dies In Route 34 Crash

Police looking for witnesses; Four locals also arrested on drunken driving charges

 

A Lavallette man was pronounced dead after an early morning crash on Route 34, police said Sunday.

Police were called to the scene of a single-car crash on Route 34 in the area of the Shore Hills Motel around 6:44 a.m., Sgt. Chad Clark said.

The 80-year-old driver was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, by Wall EMS and MONOC paramedics where he was pronounced dead.

The identity of the driver was not released early Sunday.

The collision is under investigation and any witnesses are encouraged to call Sgt. Chad Clark or Patrolman Gary Fuller: (732) 449-4500.

Also overnight Saturday four locals were arrested and charged with drunken driving, Sgt. Joseph Wilbert said.

Matthew F. Feeeny, 25, of Middletown, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a traffic stop on Route 18 near Belmar Boulevard around 10:49 p.m. Saturday. Patrolman Miles Shanklin was the arresting officer, Wilbert said.

Victor J. Cerniglia, 25, of Howell, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a traffic stop on Route 138 near Brinley Road around 12:45 a.m. Sunday. Patrolman James Cadigan was the arresting officer, Wilbert said.

Matthew T. Steigler, 21, of Morganville, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a stop on Route 138 near Allenwood Road around 2:00 a.m. Sunday. Patrolman Miles Shanklin was the arresting officer, Wilbert said.

Hector E. Sorto-Reina, 26, of Manasquan, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a traffic stop on Route 138 near Old Mill Road around 2:37 a.m. Patrolman James Cadigan was the arresting officer, Wilbert said.
