The United States currently stands at the top of the Olympic Gold Medal platform, just edging out China in total medals and gold medals.
American athletes have won 21 gold medals and 43 overall, as of Saturday morning. China is a close second with 20 gold and 42 overall.
Amercian swimmers have given a boost to the U.S. tally, with 14 gold medals coming from the pool.
Olympic superstar Michael Phelps won gold in the 100-meter butterfly, raising his personal lifetime Olympic medal count to 21 -- extending his all-time record as the most decorated Olympian in modern history.
Russia is currently in third in the medal count, with 23 total medals, followed closely by host nation Great Britain, which has 22.
But today, "Super Saturday,'' there are 25 gold medals up for grabs, so standing may change.
