More Than 200 Colleges Accept Wall High Seniors
The graduating class of 2011 accepted into 212 institutions
The Wall High School Class of 2011 has been accepted into 212 separate colleges and universities throughout the country.
Ivy League schools, design schools, technical institutes, religious colleges. Liberal Arts, environmental science, art and medical institutions, the Class of 2011 runs the gamut of higher education.
The list of colleges that have accepted Wall High graduating seniors -- included below -- might not be complete and does not necessarily reflect where students will ultimately go, but where they have been invited to attend, school officials said.
Rosaleen Sirchio, Wall High School principal, said about 70 percent of each graduating class goes on to a four-year college.
The school this year began the Building a Better Wall initiative, where the academic programs were stepped up to a college prep for the entire school body, Sirchio said.
"We eliminated the general level classes and moved to a college prep for all environment,'' Sirchio said. "We wanted to raise the bar to academically challenge the students in a college prep environment.''
Students also were able to try honors or Advanced Placement courses without going through the traditional testing and placement process, Sirchio said.
"We allowed the students the first marking period to determine whether or not they felt successful,'' said Kathryn Misa, the school's director of guidance.
If the student did not feel comfortable or was unable to keep up, they would be allowed to drop back down a level, Misa said.
Final exams are not yet graded, so the success of the program has yet to be evaluated, Misa said.
