Overturned Car Snaps Utility Pole On Route 34
Single-car accident ties up traffic for hours on busy state highway
A single-car accident snapped a utility pole and snarled traffic for hours on Route 34 Saturday afternoon, police said.
Michael Terantino, 23, of Iselin, around 12:25 p.m. lost control of his 2008 Ford in the northbound lanes of the state highway just north of the Allenwood Circle and crashed into a utility pole, Sgt. Steven Wolter said.
Terantino’s car overturned and the utility pole fell across the northbound lanes of Route 34, Wolter said.
Terantino was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by Wall Township EMS with minor injuries, Wolter said.
Traffic for hours was diverted away from the scene, causing delays, as Jersey Central Power & Light crews worked to replace the pole. State Department of Transportation crews assisted with detours. The Glendola Fire Company also assisted, Wolter said.
The accident is being investigated by Patrolman Emmet Idzahl, Wolter said.
