The poor people in that boat. That looks scary. I hope they come out of it alive!

I hope and pray that they bailed before this picture. This is a serious case of too little too late. Let the boat go, it can be replaced. It isn't worth a human life.

Please dont call them "poor people". They were on their way OUT of the inlet navigating right INTO the surf. There is no reason at all that they should have been going out. I saw the bridge go up and thought they were shutting the road down, when out from under the bridge the Grady White appeared. Everybody gasped and could not understand why the bridge operator would have let him out. Within minutes of clearing the bridge he almost capsized.
Stupid.

I agree with you; I don't care how experienced they were......as Gov. Christie saidd if it seems stupid, don't do it and that was stupid. If they capsized emergency personnel would have risked their lives for them, they should have stayed where they were. When we saw the bridge go up and the boat coming out everyone thought it was going to be the Coast Guard going to some emergency when we saw that little boat we were surprised to see these two STUPID men! Glad they made it ok just so their families and friends are not mourning them today!

I was there and saw it try and go in the ocean. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Why didn't you turn around? I was told the two where told to TRY and make it to the manasquan inlet. Sure hope they make it there.

The boat captain/owner is placing the lives at risk not only for the fools on the boat, but for the Coast Guard crew that will be called upon to rescue them. His recklessness and extreme stupidy will be at the expense of New Jersey and the taxes used to support the Coast Gurard during this or the next stupid act of recovery.

".... the fools on the boat, but for the Coast Guard crew that will be called upon to rescue them..........at the expense of New Jersey and the taxes used to support the Coast Gurard ..........."

Which coast guard? Our local? They bailed. Small boats on trailers to Fort Dix, big boats up to West Point. Crew are tucked away someplace safe and far away.
You will need to depend on your local municipalities. And the National Guard when they get here.
So keep that in mind the next time your local pols want to cut services.

Yes, I believe the Bridge operators needs some type of guidelines to prevent this from happening ...OEM needs to address this...The roads are blocked off to keep cars from going into harms way, why not the Bridge Operators

They should be arrested and charged for the time that it will take for the Rescue crews and coast guard to save them if anything happens. Hopefully all around they will make it to safety then they should not be allowed to navigate a boat again. IDIOTS!

This is our boat. It was supposed to have been pulled out of the marina weeks ago. We had no idea they tried to pull it out in this weather until seeing these pictures. We hope the guys driving the boat made it back safely.

I mean we own the boat, but the marina that stores it for us in the winter was supposed to have pulled the boat out two weeks ago. We had no idea they were taking it out today.

That's crazy! There is a Facebook feed with over 700 comments and I posted this link so people can see it was not the owners being reckless but the marina! What marina was it? A friend of mine saw the boat coming through Manasquan inlet safely so at least you know your boat and those crazy workers arrived safely ... You should def get a free winter storage and have it checked for damage !!

Not to mention they didn't even ask about the condition of their boat ... They just wanted to make sure the guys made it back safely who obviously lied to them about when they had removed their boat from the water ! That's pretty selfless of them

It's a marina in toms river, as far as I know it made it in safely and is currently on land. I work for a detail company that details at the marina, and have personally done that boat.

Also having a really hard time believing that the marina owners would even risk taking it out there.

I cannot believe these people risked their safety to transport a boat in the middle of a devastating hurricane that has already claimed 65 lives!

I can't believe someone would let their kid go surfing in this weather, but it happened.

I can't believe people would be heading TO the beach 1/2 hour BEFORE the 4pm evacuation cut off, but they did.

I also can't believe people are still complaining about trick-or-treating and the parade being postponed.

Wait til after Sandy hits, the stories will get worse.

The father who almost drowned his eleven year old on the jet ski should be arrested and have a DYFS case opened up against him.

Everyone- thanks for your concern. Spoke to the owners of the marina and they said they arrived safely in Manasquan. Fortunately, two very experienced captains were at the helm (doesn't mean it was a good idea) and they said the pictures were worse than the actual ride. Nevertheless... thanks for all the concern.

"Very experienced"?
Experience would say do no tgo out that inlet in the midst of the conditions we had yesterday.

"they said the pictures were worse than the actual ride"
Only takes one wave..............., then the next and the next.
Just ask the crew of the HMS Bounty

Marina - marina - marina.
Don't hey have a name? I'm there are plenty of people would like to know who to avoid in the future.

"The CG has a duty to save even if there's a chance they don't get to come home. "

No - they don't. Read the charter.
They have no duty to respond, and have proven that right off our coast more then once.

Man that must have been one hell of a ride out of there, I can understand the frame of mind the 2 captains were in. Now I would not have done it but having started, you have to see it through, you have to go full blast mentally, otherwise its all over. As I said I would not have done it, but I salute the 2 captains for seeing a stupid decision through. I surf and I too have had my days of being on the top of a wave, looking down and saying "Gotta go, or be sent". PETERB

That pic of your boat 2/3 of the way over doesn't lie. They had to change there shorts when they got back. I would find a new place to give your business to they don't deserve it treating your boat like that is unacceptable

You should hire the best marine surveyor you can find to go over your boat with a fine toothed comb, and, have the marina pay for any and all repairs plus the surveyor bill. I would consider hiring a surveyor from another state, I would not use a surveyor that works out of their marina. There could be structural, electrical, mechanical, (ect) damage that may not be evident after a casual inspection.

I think this was about financial responsibility. The marina was supposed to have moved it weeks ago and neglected to do so. If the boat got demolished at the marina (still at Shark River when it was supposed to be in Manasquan) the marina would probably be responsible. I think they were desperate to get it out of there.

If they had to move the boat I would think the smart thing to do would have been to put it on a trailer and drag it down the highway. just sayin'
