PHOTOS: Maps of Parkway Plans for Miles 83 to 100
New Jersey Turnpike Authority divides plans into three stretches, while Ocean County addresses exits 83 and 91
The public hearing yesterday on the lane and shoulder widening and upgrades to interchanges 91 and 83 of the Garden State Parkway allowed the public to view the project plans.
Here are some of the maps on display at the event.
The Brick Civic Plaza hosted the hearing of the project — which stretches from miles 83 to 100 on the parkway — displaying it in multiple map boards.
Here's a key to the maps in our gallery: The main initiative to the project is to widen the shoulders and lanes along these miles, which are all lanes in blue. Shoulders and right-of-ways that are used as part of the widening to 12 foot shoulders are along the roadways in gray.
Reddened areas denote bridges that will be widened. In Ocean County, bridgework at Route 571, Old Freehold Road and Church Road also means the roads underneath will be widened by the Ocean County Roads Department.
A connector road will be built at exit 83, which will serve as an entrance and exit ramp to parkway northbound and will also serve as a bypass between Route 9 and 571 intersecting with Intermediate North Way.
A connector road will also be built between exits 88 and 89, running parallel to the parkway northbound. This will allow for safer decelaration off the parkway and allow drivers to merge northbound from Route 70 onto the connector road instead of entering parkway traffic immediately.

Thanks for the map. It helps to see what's going to happen. Do you have similar maps for the Exit 83/166/571 improvements?

Will there be an entrance to the Parkway going south?. I live in Original Leisure Village across from Airport Road and I have family in Bayville. If so, where will it be?

Wonderful pictures! Did I miss it, or was it not displayed... how will drivers heading South on the GSP exit onto 166 at exit 83?

You can't, there's only northbound exit for 83 still in these plans. The officials said it at one point was discussed but it's not part of this project for 83.

I also hope they dont put sound barrier like they did at Joe Canals as it is a fence and trees that are all dead already due to poor matainence by property owners !! not owner of business fault ,i have talked to owner a few times and he does what he can but hands are tied due to leasing and not owning property, property management had town send lettters to home owners that back up to sound barrier and claim trees died due to grass clippings and tree tranches that are over ten feet away ? do they honestly beleive that caused all trees to die and why didnt sound barrier be the same as one behind costco not a fence !!!! please we need to stop land owner to get away with this and town to investigate and fine owners of property not send letters stating poor homeowners are the problem !!!!!!!

What is needed is a Parkway interchange at Church Rd in Toms River. Currently, with the last southbound exit at Rt 70, all traffic going to Silverton and East Dover exit at Rt 70, travels down Shorrock St, then onto Beaverson Blvd and then onto Brick Blvd. The traffic then backs up from Church Road in Silverton. An exit at Church Rd would disperse much of the rush hour traffic that congests Brick Blvd. The condition will worsen if a proposed shopping center is built near the intersection of Brick Blvd (Hooper Ave at that point) and Church Road just south of the Brick boundary. One proposal I witnessed at the hearing is to have a Parkway exit near Route 571 which will help, but does not satisfy those who live in Silverton or the more northerly parts of East Dover. An exit at Rt 571 would require them to backtrack to get to their destinations. A northbound exit from the Parkway to Church Rd would also improve access to southern Brick as well as the college for people coming from the south. However, from what I have been told, this will never happen. For some reason Church Rd is not to be intruded upon.

Church Road is already a mess; sometimes it backs up all the way to the Buchwald Bridge.

Leave Church road alone. We like it just the way it is. PLEASE!!!!!!!!! I can remember how quiet our road was before Buckwald Drive was opened.

I cant agree more.. This would allow people to get off at church road, either go east towards silverton, south down North Bay, and west towards New Hampshire. This would allow the flow of traffic to be less with people not all getting off in brick. They of course would have to change the timing of the lights at church and hooper to accept the overflow of new traffic. Oh and not to mention the County College would have a direct exit and entrance to the school.

My neighborhood is surrounded on three sides by the Garden State Parkway. The homes along Sally Ike Road beside French’s landfill lost acres of trees on one side and have the parkway on the other. Homeowners along Burrsville Road will have cars exiting the parkway in front and the traffic roaring behind. Why is a barrier only proposed for the Cherry Wood Farms?

The problem with making exits in toms river, since we tried this before, is that the township needed to make Church Road a four lane highway(two lanes in each direction), the problem is houses are built on some of the land needed and it would interfere with the proprety lines. Also, there is to many telephone poles that would need to be pushed back, creating another problem on proprety lines. In the end the project would cost at least $5 million and thats only for whats reqiured for Church Road not building the ramps for the parkway.

why are 4 lanes required? There are plenty of entrances and exits with one lane. Please explain.

Has anyone seen all the trees they plan to remove? They are going to ruin all the scenery and the parkway is going to look like an expressway. What's wrong with people?? What is so fun about knocking down trees?

Oh and the tree removal is completely unneccesary...the clear cutting of the forested medians is NOT NEEDED. Sure wish I could've been at that meeting, but I'll be sure to send the Turnpike Authority my opinion.

A ginormous toll increase -- and a nickel-and-dime project that has no southbound exit 83!
NJ's bully-in-chief should "weigh in" by vetoing the authority's minutes until they agree to do the job right.

Yeah because the idiot governor before him did a great job. just remember who started the toll increase thing.

The Gov should have raised the gas tax instead so that everyone pays their fair share. I agree there should be a south bound exit 83 and a full inter change at Rt 70 as well.

Not having an southbound exit at 83 and pushing all the traffic down to Rt 37 shows that Ocean County is still being shortchanged. And why shouldn't we be. Everyone knows that you can throw the people of Ocean County a bone even one without any meat on it and they will still be happy and vote right and further right. I know many people that go down to 37 go around the ramps to take the northbound ramp and go back up the Parkway to Pleasant Plains. I've done it myself when I have had to get to that area quickly. That is sheer stupidity and puts people on the road much longer than needed leading to more congestion and likely more accidents. But that is life in "taken for granted" Ocean County. Again why should anyone in Trenton do anything for a place that they already have in their pocket. I wonder when if ever we will hear from our 'elected' representatives. No! They probably think they've done a great job for the suckers...errr, voters.

Well said, Frank! Once again, the TR mayor and entire council, and all the county freeloaders (all Repubs.) are silent on this bungled so-called "plan."

The Freeloaders should be fighting for as many exits and entrances as the ppl of Ocean County demand
Instead they worry about things like having 13 Commissioners at the OCUA each getting 5 k a yr and FREE Medical and Pension Credits
Do your JOB Freeloaders

Please believe I love trees more than most, but there is a valid reason for removing them in this case. These days we are more sensitive to ground water runoff issues than in years past. This has dicatated that we build retention basins to hold the runoff. Look on the maps and you will see then all over the place. In the area where the Parkway was recently widened between mile markers 62 and 80, you may have noticed many of the trees in the median were removed to create these basins. I am expecting a similar approach to this new construction. Unfortunately, the trees must be removed to construct these basins. It's sad but we have to choose the lesser of two evils by either killing trees or perpetuating pollution if we want our highways improved. Some choice- huh?

I do a forty mile commute North and 40 back South each day. I am so thrilled by the most recent parkway work, even though it took a while and was a pain to negotiate during construction. A ride that used to take me an hour and a half to sometimes three hours after work in summer, now takes an hour tops. I feel like I have a life! Thankful for my job of course but so much happier I can go to work and get home in so much less time. The tolls........not so much!
