Police: Rollover Accident Traps Woman Under Live Utility Wires
Spring Lake Heights man charged with drunken driving in rollover accident early Sunday
A rollover accident that took down a utility pole early Sunday morning trapped an uninvolved driver under live power lines, police said.
Michael Doyle, 28, of Spring Lake Heights was traveling north on Route 35 near 18th Avenue around 7 a.m. when he rear-ended a van, veered off the road, struck a utility pole and rolled on a patch of grass, Sgt. Patrick Connor said.
The driver of the van, Doreen Morris, 49, of Manasquan was uninjured, Connor said.
But a third driver, Melanie Graham, 39, of Keansburg, was driving north on Route 35 directly behind the collision when power cables landed on her car. Graham stayed in her car, uninjured, until Jersey Central Power & Light crews cleared the intersection of the downed wires, Connor said.
Route 35 traffic was diverted into Route 138 for about an hour, Connor said.
Doyle was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for a leg injury by Wall EMS. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, Connor said.
Wall Fire Company and the state Department of Transportation also assisted, Connor said.
