Father Of Slain Toddler Arrested In California

Arthur Morgan wanted for murder in connection with the death of 2-year-old daughter

Arthur Eugene Morgan III, wanted for murder in the death of his 2-year-old daughter, has been arrested in San Diego, Calif., the U.S. Marshal Office said tonight.

Morgan, on the lam since the body of his daughter, Tierra Morgan-Glover, was found in a stream in Shark River Park in Wall last week, was arrested in a house in San Diego, said U.S. Marshal spokeswoman Lynzey Donahue.

The home, on the 800 block of Euclid Ave. in East San Diego, was owned by a friend of Morgan's, Deputy U.S. Marshal Omar Castillo said.

The service had received information from New Jersey that Morgan may be in East San Diego Tuesday. Castillo did not know from what agency the tip came from.

The Marshal service tracked down the home and surveiled it for seven hours before spotting Morgan in the back yard, Castillo said.

Castillo said the service arrested Morgan without incident. Morgan is being held in the San Diego County Jail. Extradition can take up to two weeks, Castillo said.

Authorities will seek to have Morgan transferred to New Jersey to face his murder charge as well as Ocean County charges filed against Morgan on Nov. 22 for second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child and third-degree Interference with Custody, according to a release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutor Peter Warshaw in the release thanked the U.S. Marshal's Office, which made the arrest this afternoon, and a host of other law enforcement agencies throughout the country in helping to locate Morgan, according to the release.

Morgan's capture comes just hours after the FBI turned up the heat in the nationwide manhunt for the 27-year-old man charged with the murder of his daughter.

The FBI issued a formal wanted alert for Arthur Eugene Morgan III, whose last known address was in Eatontown.

The alert says a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution has been added to the murder charge issued out of Monmouth County following the discovery of the girl's body last Tuesday.

The hunt for Morgan also was detailed on the website of America's Most Wanted over the weekend.

Tierra Morgan-Glover was considered missing after she did not return home from a visitation with Morgan on Nov. 21. Her body was found in the park by teenagers walking by the next day.

An autopsy determined Tierra was the victim of "homicidal violence'' by being submerged in water, police have said.

Funeral services were held Monday morning in Asbury Park.

Maybe he will fall out of the plane at 30,000 feet and save the expense of a trial. This guy is pure evil. I say NJ should bring back the death penalty just for him.

I'm a firm believer in innocent until proven guilty, that is the system by which we live, but looking into those eyes it's hard to believe he is innocent, there isn't an ounce of remorse there.

If you can look in the eyes OF A PICTURE OF A MAN AND DETERMINE HIS INNOCENCE/GUILT IN THE MURDER OF HIS DAUGHTER, will you go to the racetrack and pick some winners? You actually beleive that you can see with the naked eye..............anything that anyone else can? What if you are on a jury in a Capital case? "Don't worry, I can tell by lookin'." Think about it. Nincompoop.

I don't know what would be better.... If the cops just ended his life right then and there or send his ass to jail and let the other animals have at him. I can't imagine the inmates would take to kindly to his killing his own daughter and throwing her away like a piece of garbage. Friggin animals.

It really says what a savage deviant individual that has come to New Jersey. What could any human being be brought to this kind of inhumane behavior. This poor beautiful baby being murdered in this horrendous way. This man does not deserve any type of leniency. This animal deserves nothing less than the full criminal justice afforded. If anyone deserves a death penalty this animal deserves it

I am so very happy that they caught that deranged, horrible of a human being. Now the family could reflect on Tierra's short years of being with them. She is definitely an angel looking down on her family and helping them get through this horrific ordeal that robbed her and her family of many years of what could have been a beautiful life. My heart goes out to Tierra's mom and all that loved her and all that she loved. May God bless and help Tierra to watch over Tierra's family.

He's not "deranged." It was cold, calculated, deliberate murder of a helpless child, followed by scramming cross-country. A crazy man wouldn't have run. No "insanity" plea cop-out for this thug! After the trial, his neighbors in prison will get revenge daily for the rest of his (hopefully short) life. Good riddance.

I agree. A moment or two of regret, a flash of panic, and Boom, it's over (with the death penalty)
In prison, where he can sit - day after miserable day, morning, noon and night, 365 days a year, for 45. 50, maybe even 60 YEARS and think about what he's done, how he's got no life (on the outside), no freedom, no love, no one who cares, like a piece of human garbage in a landfill.... That, to me, is much worse a punishment.

Your NUTS!....They should just kill this guy and get it over with. At an average of $24,000 per year it isn't worth it. If he lives for another 40 years in jail, that's a cost to taxpayer of $960,000. This will probably give him a better life than he had originally. Get rid of him and save the money for our kids education or something more productive.

Ahhhh, the ol' " what is it going to cost the taxpayers? " argument.
You know, some things just can't always be about the MONEY.
Maybe you feel the same way about welfare feeding hungry kids, or old people.... what is it costing the taxpayer... maybe we should just let them die- it's cheaper.
I'm sick of hearing that $MONEY$ is the concern, first and foremost.
It costs money to run a country; to house criminals, to feed the poor, to build the roads, to educate the children, to house the homeless and so on. If you don't want to live in a 3rd world country, in a grass hut with mud roads, digging up your roots and roasting them on an open fire for dinner every night, Get over it.

Hey Joe, if it cost California $47,000 per year per inmate, NJ can't be far behind so you can double your number to nearly $2Mil. In the old days he would have been tried and hung all in the same week. That sure would cut the cost.

@Mattie...OK in your infinite wisdom think of this. If we killed off all of these murderers quickly so that our $$$ aren't used to keep them alive, maybe we would have a budget...and a substantial one to feed the law abiding hungry citizens that you speak of...what a thought :-) These criminals that will NEVER add anything to society are costing us money that could be spent on good people. It has nothing to do with 3rd world countries or anything like that. In fact it is quite simple logic.

Again Joe, I cannot justify in my mind or heart the idea that because it's CHEAPER to KILL someone, that's what we should do. Sorry. It goes against my nature to believe that the death penalty is a "justified" killing. Can't do it. I believe life in prison with no chance for parole is a perfectly fitting - yet lonely, harsh, depressing, and torturous punishment as it is. I believe it's justified to permanently and irrevocably remove hard-core criminals (like this animal) from society, but not to remove them from life. Killing, even if supported and deemed justified by the masses - is still killing.

And Joe-- if you really think the $$ saved by putting all these criminals to death is REALLY going to then be spent on the poor and hungry in this country.... WOW, you're a bigger POLLYANNA than I am! LOL
One reason the prisons cost so much (especially in CA, FR Grown) is because many of the prisons are CORPORATELY OWNED PRIVATE PRISONS, no longer state run facilities. That's what privatization got us for prisons.

It was a horrible, horrific crime and a life that should no have been taken - but no life should be. Sorry folks, I'm against crime as much as you, and this great nation of ours has serious problems that are getting worse and worse. But the death penalty is not the way to solve it. It is proven not to be a deterrent. And it doesn't solve anything. But worst of all . . . it makes us no better than them.

For those who say he's innocent until proven guilty, I say give him his day in court. When they find him guilty, do to him what he did to that poor baby & let him feel the suffering & horrible death she felt those last few minutes of her life. No jail, no life in prison.....just an eye for an eye.

I've done a little research about this 'impression' regarding prisons (in NJ especially) that supposedly allow prisoners to "live better than a lot of tax paying Americans..." and it's just not true. Unless you're talking about the "WHITE COLLAR" Federal prisons, you know, where the Bernie Madoffs and other well-connected, well-monied thieves, tax evaders and scam artists go (If they're not black, that is), prisons in general do NOT have internet access, or cable tv premium channels, or even three 'decent' meals per day. As for medical care, that too is basic and minimum. You've got many hundreds of prisoners living in close, cramped, not well ventilated areas, it pays to keep them (basically) healthy and relatively free from disease and infections- for everyone's sake. Don't forget, non-prisoner people work there too.
As for cable tv, yes, their tv comes in via cable... but they DON'T get pay per view, or HBO or Cinemax channels. They get a few basic network channels and the types of programs they are allowed to watch is monitored closely. TV viewing in a large, central room with other prisoners, is used as a reward/punishment thing.
And if you've ever experienced (and complained about) airline or hospital food, well be assured that's practically "gourmet" in comparison to prison food. It's not a picnic to be in prison and it shouldn't be. But they are NOT living as well as most tax paying citizens, that's a BS political talking point.

Lori, I too agree with you..Jail isn't jail anymore..they get everything they want..why would they want another life outside?? AND they don't have to pay for it. People seem to forget that they loose everything when going to jail, not any more now we just give give give.., because we want them to be confortable OMG what next??

We do not have appropriate punishments for people like him. He should be staked out and allowed to drown slowly. it would be fitting for a piece of scum who would drown his own child. Jail is far to good for him. He should be somewhere where there is no gym, no TV, No internet. He should be in a miserably small cell with nothing to do but remember why he is there! And regret, if only for selfish reasons, what he did! Death is too easy and jail is no punishment!

way to go joe stewart i was wondering how long it would take for someone to get on a stump and turn a tragic story into a chance to take a shot at obama who no doubt is responsible for this little girl's death. as for you spending your tax dollars most of these low lifes do 20 yrs on death row before they execute them anyway so the tax debate is moot. those two guys who assaulted and burned to death that doctor's wife and two girls got the death penalty but they,ll be senior citizens before the state of conneticut dispatches them to hell. and sistagirl you are 100% right . he did this because he wanted to hurt your friend in the worst way possible which is the ultimate control. my thoughts are with her and whats ahead of her in the trial when painful details are revealed. he can burn in hell but everyone's thoughts and prayers should be for her in what lies ahead.
