Mayors 'Bagging' Hunger at Route 34 ShopRite
Wall, Manasquan mayors bagging groceries Wednesday to raise money for local food bank
The mayors of Manasquan and Wall on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. will be bagging groceries at the ShopRite on Route 34 in Wall to help raise money for their local food banks, organizers said.
Mayor George Dempsey of Manasquan and Mayor Jeff Foster of Wall will be on-hand Wednesday to "help bag hunger" by raising awareness and funds for the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, organizers said.
Both mayors will serve as honorary grocery baggers to cashiers at the supermarket, organizers said.
Representatives from the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties will also be on-hand, organizers said.
ShopRite will be accepting donations to help stock the shelves at the food bank, organizers said.
Honoring National Hunger Action Month, governors in all states with ShopRites have issued proclamations to recognize the day, and dignitaries throughout those states have been asked to "help bag hunger" at their local markets, organizers said.
"With nearly 50 million Americans, including more than 16 million children, suffering from food insecurity, ShopRite Partners In Caring, a year-round, community based hunger-fighting charity, is helping to raise awareness and inspire action within their local communities through hunger-fighting initiatives," according to a release from the organization.
"Since its inception in 1999, ShopRite Partners In Caring has donated $29 million to local food banks that support more than 1,700 charities in providing food assistance throughout the Northeast," the release says.

Today's news usually covers the sad, unhappy, bad, tragic and gruesome. It's definitely wonderful to see GOOD news being given attention. Thank you Mayors for an example to share and point out to our youth.
