Wall Schools Canceled Monday And Tuesday

Superintendent, in consultation with emergency officials, calls off school ahead of storm

The Wall Township School system is closed for Monday and Tuesday, according to Superintendent Daniel Simon.

Simon, who earlier Sunday spoke with Police Chief Robert Brice and other emergency officials in a conference call, decided to shut the seven-school system ahead of Hurricane Sandy.

In a message sent to parents around 11 a.m. Sunday, Simon said both the schools and the administrative offices would be closed for the coming storm and that on Tuesday a decision would be made whether to open on Wednesday.

Due to severity of the impending weather conditions, all Wall Township schools and offices will be closed on Monday, October 29th and Tuesday, October 30th. All scheduled after-school and evening activities are postponed," Simon said. "Information regarding the status of the schools for Wednesday will be shared on Tuesday after a comprehensive evaluation of local conditions and facilities takes place. Please be prepared and stay safe!!!"

Wall Township Public Schools and offices are now closed for Wednesday, October 31st as well. The district website is down, so a Twitter message has just been posted, and a Connect-ED call has been placed. Please spread the word to everyone who needs to know. Updates for the rest of the week will be communicated in the same manner, until power is restored. Stay safe everyone. D. Simon

I'm sure there are plenty of rumors circulating, so thanks for the heads up. At this time, we are only closed through Friday, November 2nd. Without an operational website, it is challenging to point the community to one location for information so thank you for bring this to my attention (and thanks to the Patch for being a resource). We are planning to reassess the situation over the weekend with input from Chief Brice (who has been doing a sensational job) regarding the status of the conditions all around town. The schools and school grounds, including the busses, are all ready to go, but power and access are clearly the top issues at this time. Expect word to go out some time Sunday afternoon. Thanks again for reaching out. Stay safe. D. Simon
