A Wall resident has again lit up a national signing competition, when Wall High School graduate Jessica Poland turned chairs around on NBC's The Voice Monday night.

Poland, who sings under the name Charlotte Sometimes -- a nod to a song by '80s new wave band The Cure -- auditioned for the national singing competition and had her choice of superstar singers to choose from, as each of the four judges vied for her talents.

In a recorded interview before her performance, Poland, 24, said she could not wait to "show them what I got.''

She did, singing a portion of "Apologize'' by OneRepublic.

Judge Adam Levine was the first judge to turn his chair around, followed quickly by Blake Shelton.

"My job as a coach is to hear it, understand it and within the first few lines I knew what I was hearing,'' Shelton said. "I think we're all gravitating toward unique vocalists. And that's what you are.''

"You were great,'' said The Voice judge Christina Agulara. "I loved your performance. You were strong the whole way through.''

"When you opened up, it was like a flower,'' said judge Cee Lo Green. "It was beautiful, just very graceful, very poised.''

"I thought you were amazing,'' Levine said.

Poland, who grew up in north wall and is a recent graduate of Wall High School, said she was making a decision she had not thought she would make, picked Shelton as her mentor for the duration of the show.

Poland was showered with affection from her parents -- Hartson and Tracy -- waiting offstage during the taped performance.
