Weekend Traffic Picking Up As Rush Hour Approaches
Parkway and Turnpike seeing heavy traffic as summer winds down
With each week that goes by, Labor Day weekend gets closer, bringing an end to another summer season here on the Jersey Shore. The traffic is already picking up as locals and visitors to the area make one of their last trips to our area.
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is reporting problem areas on the road already even at 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon. There is heavy volume reported on the Garden State Parkway south near exit 91. The delays stretch from north of Exit 91 to north of Exit 90. Travellers in that area can expect a three mile backup slowing down their trip.
There are also delays reported on the Parkway heading south near Exit 109 reaching all the way to Exit 105. A four mile delay is being attributed to heavy volume in the area.
On the western part of the state, there are delays on the Turnpike for motorists heading making their way to our area. There are delays reported heading south near Exit 7A with the right lane blocked near the interchange for 195.
Traffic is also mounting on the local roads including Route 9 up near Old Bridge. Drivers heading south near Route 18 are experiencing heavy volume which is slowing down their weekend commute.
While they are not in our area yet, there are many drivers near the Hudson River crossings that could make traffic even heavier if they make their way south.

Part of the traffic problem is that cars don't keep to the right. It seems the favored lanes are the middle and left lanes leaving the right lane open for people to pass. This is why some drivers weave in and out of traffic lanes. Cause and effect....start ticketing cars that aren't keeping to the right, afterall that is the law.

AGREED! You have people doing 40 in the passing lane and/or talking or texting!
