Breaking: Minutes From Seaside Heights, Sandy's Destruction Still Apparent »
Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
Good Morning, Wall. It’s going to be cold. And it’s going to rain, or snow, or just generally be miserable this morning. Forecasters never use words like “miserable,’’ no matter how accurate they may be. But take a look outside and tell me you’re not using a word at least as strong. The Planning Board last night approved three applications. One of them might be in your neighborhood, so check back for that report. We also caught up with a former Wall High School grad who's out west making feature films. You’ll learn her story later this morning. And tonight, the Board of Education meets for …
Good Morning, Wall. Seems it’s been a long time since we’ve spoken. It’s been busy around here. This morning you’ll not find the oppressive winter you’ve come to love, but instead downright balmy temps around 42 degrees before the day is done. There may be some rain in the afternoon. But did I tell you the temperature is going to be around 42? Around here, we’re looking ahead to another very busy news week. The Planning Board meets tonight. The agenda has not been posted to the town’s website yet, but we’ll give you as much notice as we can when it is posted. On Tuesday, the Board of …
Good morning, Wall.  We’re gearing up for a big week here at Wall Patch. In addition to our normal schedule, we’re going to be introducing a slew of new features we hope you’ll like. There will be more on that as the week develops.  Meantime, I’m going to again mention the business listings, because this is important. I talked about it the other day, but I can’t stress enough how important it is to get in on this while the site is still new. The business listings on this site are supposed to be Wall listings, at least primarily. But anyone who has looked knows they're anything but. It's a …
Good morning, Wall. Hey, guess what? More snow today. Not much. Just enough to taunt you a second time. I'm going to take some time today to talk about some pedestrian stuff, but something I have not addressed yet.  Business listings. We have them, but most of them don't belong, frankly.  The business listings on this site are supposed to be Wall listings, at least primarily. But anyone who has looked knows they're anything but. It's a little frustrating. Those who put together the site's business listings - free mini websites for local businesses - were frustrated by Wall's unique zip code …
Good morning, Wall. Got some coffee? Good. Let’s just get right into it today, shall we? The possibility that the school board could shutter West Belmar School is beginning to bulge our email inbox with letters from residents opposed to the move, the first of which will be rolling out later today. The Township Committee is holding its regular meeting tomorrow night – 7 p.m. at town hall, 2700 Allaire Ave. We don’t have an agenda yet, but we’ll preview one when it is made available.  And look for us at the meeting Wednesday if you go. If not, we’ll keep you updated on the events as they unfold…
Good morning, Wall. It's not warm outside, in case you're wondering. Sorry to break that to you. It's one of those days when you could punch your neighbor for his/her car's fancy-schmancy automatic start function, if you weren't certain you'd freeze to death before you got to the end of the driveway. But don't worry. It'll warm up to a balmy 18 degrees later today, so that's good. And weather people say it'll continue to warm up in the coming days, you know, so it can snow again. Oh, winter. You're so funny. We've got a busy week ahead of us. The State of the Union speech is Tuesday, and …
If everything went as predicted, you're waking up to a fresh coating of snow. I'll give you a minute to do a little happy dance. It may even still be snowing now, in fact. It's not a lot, maybe about 3 inches, but it's enough to remind you that winter, she's not done yet. The snow'll taper off around 9 a.m. and the rest of the day should be clear. Around here, we're going to do some news, because that's what we do, with precious little fluff or soulless pandering to special groups. We've so far brought you just the unvarnished news affecting or involving Wall residents. And you've responded, …
Good morning, Wall. I'm not going to lie, it looks miserable outside. We've been checking, but there have been no notices from the school district to indicate school has been cancelled. Nearby districts, like Howell, are scheduled for a delayed opening. Not so for Wall. Traffic also seems to be moving along. There have been no reported tie-ups or accidents on major roads in town as of 6:15 a.m. The big news in town today has got to be tonight's Board of Education meeting, scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Intermediate School. I'd say its a fair bet all the news outlets around here will be there to …
Good morning, Wall.  Today represents a small milestone in the short history of Wall Patch. With this writing, Wall Patch has published more than 100 stories. That number does not count the numerous stories we’ve published that were re-written, updated and re-written again throughout the day, as circumstances warranted. This is our 101st story. We launched this site on December 15, just shy of a month ago, with hopes of covering Wall Township both daily and exclusively – something that has never been done in this town. It was a bold move. Patch, generally, is a bold concept. And here in Wall…
Good morning, Wall. Nine days. That's the answer to the question, "How long will it take before Wall will be going about life pretty much like normal after a huge blizzard?'' Today, nine days after a major blizzard, major roads are clear. Most neighborhood streets are scraped clean. Most of the snow and ice has been beaten back. Trash pickup is on schedule. School, most importantly, is back in session after calling off classes Monday - a story you read here first, at least 12 hours before any of the scads of other news outlets jumped on our bandwagon. Life is, mostly, back on track in these …
Good morning, Wall. It looks like today might be a better day for most. Major roads are mainly clear, with the exception, possibly, of Route 71, which even on Wednesday was still a horror show. And it seems the majority of neighborhood roads have had at least one lane plowed through them. Township Administrator Joe Verruni estimated that by close of business Wednesday, 99 percent of Wall's neighborhoods were passable, if not cleared. Considering this town spans 32 square miles, that's a bold statement.  It wasn't long before Wall Patch had found the 1 percent. Maple Street runs off Voorhees …
Good morning, Wall. Today is the third day since a storm took a turn that few expected just days before and headed right at us, dumping, by some estimations, more than two feet of snow on our town. Mayor George Newberry, in his last week as mayor, has faced arguably the toughest challenge of his one-year term as this town's chief executive. For good or bad, this is the crisis that will define his term at the helm. And it will be the standard by which residents judge the incoming mayor - whoever that may be – who will be chosen at the committee's organization meeting on Jan. 6. On Tuesday, …
Good Morning, Wall. You might not have noticed, but there's a little snow outside. Your day might start just a little differently. Some things to know to plan your day: -       State of Emergency still in effect at 5 a.m. – no non-essential vehicles are allowed on the roads, but that may change by sunrise. -       NJ Transit trains are operating on an enhanced weekend schedule. -       NJ Transit has suspended bus service. See NJtransit.com for updates. -       Two-hour delayed opening for all state offices. -       No word yet on when or whether municipal offices will open today. -       …
Good Morning, Wall. Today's temperatures are going to be about the same as Wednesday, but the winds are going to make it feel far colder.  Today'll peak at just less than 40 degrees, but with winds at around 25 mph, it's going to feel like the 20s. If you're up at 5 a.m. like me, it's a balmy 8 degrees outside, all things considered. Start those cars early. Today's the last full day of school for district pupils, who will have lots of time on their hands until January. And, if you live in West Belmar or the north of town, it's trash day – the last chance to give the DPW folks a little holiday…
Good Morning, Wall. A quick rundown of the essentials: 36-38 degrees for a high today, depending on who you listen to.  At 5 a.m., temps are around 25 and won't start warming up until after 8 a.m. No rain, no snow likely today - just a bright, but chilly December day. The only standing impediment to traffic flow for commuters on the GSP is on the southbound side, between the Asbury tolls and north of the Monmouth rest area. That right lane will be closed until 3 p.m. That traffic can change in an instant. We'll stay on top of it for you. Look for those updates on Twitter @wallpatch. Today, …
