For this installment of Spotlight On Wall we've gone old and new. Stewart's Root Beer has sat at the top of the Collingswood Circle for more than 20 years. But new owner Stephanie Francolla has recently taken the reins of the North Wall Mainstay. We caught up with her for a short talk about burgers and root beer. Stewart’s Root Beer, as a franchise, has been around quite some time, right? People think of another drive-in restaurant in town as being the oldest, but hasn’t Stewart’s been around longer? Tell us about the history, if you could. Yes, Stewarts Root Beer was actually founded in 1924…
For this installment of Spotlight On Wall, we've gone solar. Roof Diagnostics Solar, a home solar energy company, has recently set up shop in town. We caught up with owner Kelcy Pegler Jr. to walk us through this brave new world of energy production.   Solar, eh? New Jersey's big on the budding Solar Industry. Lots of solar companies out there, even some in town. What makes your company unique? The Solar Industry has really condensed over the past year. In 2011 there were twice as many solar companies installing solar as in 2012. While the number of overall integrators (sales and install) …
Despite Winter's Last Gasp, Spring is really right around the corner. Don't believe me? You're about to turn your clocks ahead this weekend. So there. So for this installment, we thought we'd brighten things up a little and talk about flowers and planting and all things are are not Winter. Enter Barlow's Flower Farm, a Wall Township staple for decades. We caught up with Leslie Barlow for this Spotlight On Wall. As always, if you've got suggestions on businesses, groups or people you think deserve a Spotlight, please send them to: keith.brown@patch.com Barlow’s Flower farm has been a Wall …
For this installment, we thought we'd change it up one more time and talk to some people who have been in Wall Township likely as long as some can remember. The Atlantic Club has been at its Atlantic Avenue location for 36 years, offering a wide variety of physical fitness programs and more. Take a few minutes and learn just a little about a place you may have driven past a thousand times. The Atlantic Club. That place is huge, right? Give us an overview of the kinds of programs you have there, if you would. You name we have it! Everything from TRX, kettlebell training, Water Arthritis Class…
For this installment of Spotlight On Wall, we focus on a slightly different organization, the Wall Township Office of Emergency Management. We had a few questions for the office's deputy coordinator, Wall Police Sgt. Joseph Wilbert. Here's what he had to say: Everyone has heard of the Office of Emergency Management, at least on a federal or state level. But I'm not sure if everyone really understands what it is the office does and why it’s important. Can you explain that? The mission of Wall Township OEM is to coordinate preparedness and cooperative response activities for all types of …
As the Wall High School Varsity Boy's Ice Hockey team secured their second consecutive division championship this week with a with a commanding 8-1 win over rival Manasquan, (Go Wall!) Please keep those suggestions of businesses, organizations or people in town you think deserve a Spotlight. Send to:keith.brown@patch.com or call (732) 292-4484. Now, our Spotlight on Ryan Waddell: You're a hockey player. But a bowler, too. You're a bowling hockey player. It's an unusual …
For this installment of Spotlight On Wall, we caught up with a charitable organization unique to Wall Township. Wall Helps Its People, or WHIP, has been around for decades with the mission to help Wall residents who have fallen on hard times. President Hilary Addonizio, a well-recognized name in town, currently heads up the organization. Here's what she had to say: First off, could you just tell us what Wall Helps Its People is and what the organization is trying to do? WHIP is a non-profit organization designed to help Wall Township residents in need.  We are here to help families who suffer…
It's cold and there's snow on the way, so why not talk about frozen treats, right? It may seem like our timing is off a bit, but Ralph's Famous Italian Ice Owner Donna Farina assures us that there is more to her Sea Girt Square shop than ices, which, she adds, are still a great treat no matter what time of year. We caught up with Donna for this installment of Spotlight On Wall. And we're always looking for new suggestions for businesses, organizations or people in Wall for this column. Please send them to: keith.brown@patch.com   1.) There's stiff competition in the Italian Ice business, from…
This time, Spotlight On Wall catches up with 15-year-old Wall High School sophomore Danielle Griggs, a swimmer who is turning heads with her speed in the pool.
