Voters need to register with county clerk
May 14 is your last chance to register to vote in the June 5 primary. If you would like to register, you will need to enter a driver’s license number or the last four digits of your Social Security number on the New Jersey Voter Registration form. In a rush? Save some time by downloading a copy of the New Jersey Voter Registration form, filling it out beforehand and taking it with you when you register. The form is attached to this article as a .pdf. All U.S. citizens at least 18 years old by Primary Day, and not incarcerated, on probation or parole, are eligible to vote. In Gov. Chris Christie's first television ad of his 2013 re-election campaign, the governor's leadership style is credited for renewing New Jersey residents' pride in their state after years of overtaxation, and too much government spending. "Jersey Proud" shows how bipartisan reforms have helped "to strengthen New Jersey's future," according to the Christie campaign.

November election candidate deadline approaching
Candidates for local school boards have less than a month to file their candidacy with the county clerk. Now, candidates have until June 4 to file a petition to run in November, said the county clerk's office. Local races in Manasquan, Wall and Belmar, among others, switched to a November school board race last year. The move to a November election was allowed under a newly passed state law, giving districts the choice to keep an April election or move it to coincide with the general election in November. Candidates will be listed in a separate section of the November ballot, as school board elections are nonpartisan.

Gov. Chris Christie is the best person to lead New Jersey over the next four years, according to voters recently polled in a survey released this week by Quinnipiac University. Christie, a Republican, leads his Democratic rival, state Sen. Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex), 62 percent to 25 percent in the state's 2013 gubernatorial race, according to the poll. The governor's overall approval rating also remains high. Christie's 74 percent approval rating and 69 percent favorable rating tie his personal record highs from January, the Huffington Post reports, both numbers buoyed by public perception of the way he handled Hurricane Sandy's impact and its aftermath. The Monmouth County Republicans will retain a 5-0 majority on the Board of Chosen Freeholders. With 99 percent of districts reporting, Freeholder Director John Curley and Freeholder Serena DiMaso led their Democratic opponents William Shea and Kevin Lavan by over 25,000 votes, according to unofficial results from the Monmouth County Board of Elections. "We are gathered here tonight to make sure that what you have entrusted in us remains and creates the greatest county in the state of New Jersey," Curley said during Monmouth County Republican Committee’s election party at South Gate Manor in Freehold Tuesday night. Voters in New Jersey on Tuesday cast their ballot for Barack Obama, giving him the state's 14 electoral votes.
Barack Obama won New Jersey’s 14 electoral votes on Tuesday, defeating Republican Mitt Romney. In the 2008 presidential election, the state voted for the Democratic candidate, and since the 1990s has voted for the overall winner of the presidential race 3 out of 5 times. Romney and Obama did not campaign aggressively in New Jersey. The state has typically been a Democratic stronghold in recent presidential elections.
