NJAHU Names Desmond X. Slattery as 2014 Winner of the Lou Mattei Award

Desmond X. Slattery of Wall Township is the 2014 recipient of the most prestigious award handed out by the New Jersey Association of Health Underwriters (NJAHU).

The NJAHU recognized Slattery’s achievements and ongoing commitment to the profession, naming him the recipient of the 2014 Louis G. Mattei Achievement Award.

Slattery was presented with the 21st-annual award at the NJAHU’s annual conference in Atlantic City, flanked by previous winners who honored him for “tireless service, sacrifice and dedication.”

In accepting the award, Slattery said, he was honored to be part of such a prestigious group of professionals that has helped mold the NJAHU into a well-known voice of the health insurance industry. “I look forward to continuing to help provide answers as we move into the uncertain and ever-changing future of health care reform,” he said.

As the association’s Legislative Chair, Slattery is one of the most active members of the NJAHU, regularly meeting with state lawmakers to advocate on behalf of the organization.

“Desmond is one of those dedicated people who have been a consistent resource for the NJAHU,” said NJAHU President Sandy Gibson. “He is smart, hard working and has such an incredible knowledge of the intricacies of health insurance. In this era of constant change in the market, Desmond is a very special resource for NJAHU members.”

An active member of NJAHU since 2005, Slattery served as Vice President and President of the Monmouth-Ocean Chapter, President-elect and President of the State Board, and is currently the Legislative Management Chair.

Slattery serves as Executive Vice President of Slattery GA, a division of Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. “Business without Barriers”, based in Holmdel. He resides in Wall Township.
