10th Annual Kids Day America Held Saturday

Hundreds came out for a day of education and fun

Health, safety, and a good amount of fun were at the center of the Kids Day America celebration, held on Saturday.

Hundreds came to the 10th annual event, held behind town hall on Allaire Road. The event was sponsored by the Wall Community Alliance and Garrow Family Chiropractic.

Live dance demonstrations, face painting, clowns, special characters abounded at the event, along with plenty of activities and games. There were pony rides, a petting zoo, a bounce house.

YOSI, a favorite children's performer brought his own brand of kids' music thorughout.

“I like the environmental display that had to do with recycling and protecting the earth,” said Desmond Abazia, of Brick, who was among hundreds who attended the festivities.

Co-founder Tony Garrow said he wanted to combine carnival activities with health and safety messages into a fun fair and bring the community together when he helped to created the event a decade ago.

“It’s about educating people in a fun way,” said event founder and co-organizer Tony Garrow.

Along with Kristin Meyler, Wall Community Alliance for the Prevention of Drug and Alcohol abuse, the pair organized the first event.

“Dr. Garrow being health oriented, both of us wanted to help kids be healthy and safe,” Meyler said.

At the start of Saturday's event, Assemblyman David Rible, Senator Robert Singer, both R-Monmouth, and Mayor Ann Marie Conte, also a Republican, read a proclamation honoring the event’s 10-year anniversary.

Township resident Ann Bates, of Broad Street, was among those out with her family.

“It’s wonderful all these kids are out and there are pony rides,” Bates said.
