Flowers Mark Site of Deadly ATV Accident

Flowers, candles, tributes on Watson Road location where Bradley teen died Monday

Flowers, candles and tributes on the side of Watson Road form a small, makeshift memorial for a local teen who died there Monday.

Some orange spray paint on a fallen telephone pole bids Tyler M. Bekier - the 18-year-old victim of a tragic ATV accident -- to rest in peace.

Flowers,  some still in their plastic wrappers, lay on the side of road, interspersed with scads of prayer candles that stand sentry on the spot where police say the teen's ATV left the road and struck a tree, killing him.

Bekier was traveling with David P. Foster Jr., 19, of Neptune, on the rear of the vehicle on  Watson Road between Monmouth Boulevard and Brighton Avenue when Bekier lost control and the ATV left the road, went airborne and struck a tree around 5:30 p.m., police have said.

Both men were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, by Wall Township First Aid and MONOC paramedics. Bekier was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Foster was released from the hospital Wednesday, according to hospital spokesman Robert Cavanaugh.

Bekier studied building trades at KIVA High School in Tinton Falls— a division of the Monmouth County Vocational School District. He attended KIVA until June 2008, the end of his sophomore year, according to Monmouth County Vocational School District Superintendent Timothy McCorkell.

"He put fourth the effort and he succeeded in the time that he was here," KIVA High School Principal Denise Kebeck said.

Manasquan High School Superintendent Geraldine Margin confirmed that though Bekier was placed in KIVA through Manasquan, he never actually attended Manasquan High School.

The crash is still under investigation by the Wall Township Police Department, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team, Clark said.

Anyone with information or anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Sgt. Chad Clark  of the Wall Township Police Department at (732) 449-4500 ext. 1143.
