Hurricane Sandy Update: What's Happening In Town

Most residents are still without power, but some electricity is creeping back, authorities said.

Residents and businesses in the route 33/34 corridor are beginning to see some lights flickering back on. The BP station on the Collingswood Circle and the Wawa on Route 34 were late Thursday making preparations to open, making them some of the few gas stations in the area to be open.

Jersey Central Power & Light is sticking to its story -- residents can expect to be without power for seven to 10 days. According to the company's outage map, there are 11,591 customers without power in Wall, as of late Thursday night.

There is an emergency meeting of the Township Committee this morning in the main courtroom at 8:30 a.m. The purpose is to discuss the township's storm response and discuss the plan for going forward, Township Administrator Jeffry Bertrand said.

The Circle Factory Outlets will be the staging area for free water, being passed out from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

As of Thursday afternoon, police had responded to 1058 calls since the start of Hurricane Sandy; firefighters responded to 257 and EMS to 301.

Residents who were evacuated or who have storm damage should contact Wall Police Non-Emergency (732) 280-4341 prior to re-entering your home for help assessing your damage. This is required by the Wall Township Building Department in order to determine the safety of your building/home.
