KISS Drummer, Wall Resident Peter Criss Heading Into Rock Hall Of Fame

The Wall Township resident who sang the top-10 hit "Beth," wore makeup that made him look like a cat and played the drums with unbridled energy for the hard-rock group "KISS" is heading into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Peter Criss, the original drummer for KISS, will be inducted as a member of the band. KISS was among the Class of 2014 inductees announced Tuesday.

"This is absolutely the best Christmas and birthday present I could get," Criss, who turns 68 on Friday, told The Associated Press. "This is amazing, that something like this could happen to a kid from Brooklyn."

Criss has had several stints as the drummer for the facial-makeup-wearing band, starting in the 1970s when its four members were perhaps the most popular rock group to teenagers. He returned to the band when it had a 1990s revival, makeup and all.

He was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and has involved himself in breast-cancer-awareness causes.
