The Wall Relay for Life is scheduled to hold a Comedy Night on March 4 to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
The event — to feature three New York-area comedians — will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the South Wall Firehouse at 2605 Atlantic Ave. Tickets are $35 and include free beer and wine for those 21 and older. Attendees are welcome to bring their own food or hors d’oeuvres.
The event was organized by Carol Cotta and Beverly Howey — members of “Team Howey Doin” — who are local participants in the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life event.
Relay For Life is an overnight fundraising walk that mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against cancer.
“We chose the American Cancer Society because we liked that it dealt with all forms of cancer. We didn’t want to limit it to just breast cancer,” said Howey, a cancer survivor.
Organizers said they hope to raise about $9,000 for cancer research at the Comedy Night. It is not the team’s first fundraiser for the cancer society. They have also organized area car washes and grocery bagging events at a local Shop Rite.
“We started the team for two reasons, raising money and getting the word out,’’ Cotta said. “I think we have done a pretty good job of both.”
