STORM INFO: More Rain Today, Snow After Midnight

Update 11:30 a.m. Thursday:

Look for more rain throughout the afternoon today. The high temperature will be around 40. It'll be breezy, but nothing like Wednesday's gusts. Tonight the temperature should dip to about 30 and the snow starts after midnight. Not a lot, though. Accumulations shoul be about an inch, according to the National Weather Service.

Friday there will be rain and snow before 11 a.m. and then more rain between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. with a high of about 43 degrees. The snow might reach up to 2 inches in places, the service says.

Update 9 a.m. Thursday:

The winds have died down, the predicted snow dwindled to nearly nothing and JCP&L is reporting fewer than five outages in Wall. Coastal flooding, however, still remains a threat through Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Expect various types of wet for the next day: Rain during the day and snow later tonight, with an inch or two of accumulation by Friday morning, the weather service says.

New Jersey Transit reports that their system was unaffected by the storm overnight Wednesday and that trains and busses are running on or close to schedule, but it will continue to systemwide cross-honoring through Friday.

Update 5:55 p.m. Wednesday:

JCP&L is reporting that all but six customers have had power restored to their homes, down from a high of nearly 600. The winds, heavy for most of the afternoon, have died down somewhat.

Board of Adjustment and Township Committee meetings are still a go for 7:30 and 7:00 p.m., respectively, at town hall, 2700 Allaire Rd.

Update 5:01 p.m. Wednesday:

JCP&L is reporting 562 customers without power in town, the largest number of any of the surrounding towns.

There is no indication that the tonight's Board of Adjustment or Township Committee meetings will be canceled. Those meetings are stil on, despite the weather.

Route 71 between 17th and 18th avenues has been reopened.

Previously -- 3:57 p.m. Wednesday:

High winds are causing problems for some residents in town, and JCP&L is still reporting about 383 customers without power.

A street light on Warren Ave. at Route 35, at was reportedly dangling by a chain. A Wall Patch reader reports that a utility truck is on the scene.

Traffic light at 17th and Route 71 are out when a transformer blew in that are blew earlier. Reports are coming in that the traffic light at 18th is now functioning.

The scheduled meetings of the Township Committee at 7 p.m. and the Board of Adjustment, at 7:30 p.m. were still on as of 4 p.m., officials said.

JCP&L reporting 252 customers without power, down from more than 400 a couple of hours ago. There are close to 900 without power in neighboring Howell Township and more than 700 out in Belmar.

Jersey Central Power & Light says there could be power outages lasting a day or more, the utility said.

JCP&L, much criticized for its handling of Hurricane Sandy outages, is warning customers on its web page that the impending winter storm could knock out power to some for 24 hours or more.

"We recommend that our customers have enough supplies to provide for the safety and welfare of all persons and pets in their household," said a warning on the utility's web site. "These supplies should include nonperishable food items, drinking water, a battery-powered radio, flashlights, batteries, blankets and other basic staples. We also urge customers to stay away from all downed power lines."

JCP&L recommends calling 888-544-4877 (1-888-LIGHTSS), if you experience a power outage.

Jersey Central Power & Light is reporting that at least 440 customers in Wall are without power ahead of the brunt of the coming winter storm as of 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Brielle Borough has issued voluntary evauations for flood-prone areas, joining a list of area communities taking like precautions.
