Wall Township Charity Raises $90,000

Annual gala brings in record haul to help families with seriously ill newborns

Michael’s Feat, a Wall Township-based charity organization helping critically ill newborns, raised nearly $90,000 at its annual fundraiser, charity officials said Wednesday.

The charity’s annual event was held at the Battleground Country Club in Manalapan April 1. More than 350 attended,  according to a release from the organization.

The event also kicked off two new fundraising goals for the organization’s 11th year, the release said.

The organization wants to purchase two “Knowledge Units’’ for the neonatal intensive care units at both Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, and Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.

The units contain hours of video, audio and graphics addressing important topics for families with seriously ill newborns. Families can interact with a touch screen educator to learn about the intensive care unit and its methods, the release said.

The first unit has already been delivered to Monmouth Medical Center and  will be dedicated on Mother’s Day, the release said.

Michael’s Feat also wants to establish a second  "Family Resource Room.” The new room will be located just outside the special care nursery at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold. The room will provide families with a comfortable "living room" away from home when parents visit their babies in the hospital, according to the release.

The first was dedicated at Monmouth Medical Center.

Michael’s Feat was created in memory of Adam and Dana Puharic’s newborn son, Michael, who lost his life to a serious chromosome disorder after just 83 hours. The Puharics live in Wall Township.
