An Evening of Poe Returns to Allaire

Performances will be held Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Headed to Allaire Village from the Poe House in Philadelphia, Miss Helen McKenna will perform dramatizations from the tales of Edgar Allan Poe for ‘An Evening of Poe’ on Friday and Saturday nights.

“Performances usually include the Raven, the Bells, the Cask of Amati ado, or the Tell Tale Heart with others,” said John Curtis, Allaire's executive director.

"Helen does not read as she has committed everything to memory," Curtis said. "Helen looks like Poe. I had friends come to the show and they could not believe that the actor was not man."

Curtis added that she gives a brief history of Poe and then comments before each reading.

"The timing for the show is perfect as it starts at the beginning of the Halloween season,” Curtis said.

The performance will be held at the Howell Works Christ Church Chapel National Historic Site at Allaire Village. Tickets are $15 per person and seating is limited to 100 people each night. Advance ticket purchases are recommended. To learn more or to purchase tickets in advance, call the Historic Village at (732) 919-3500 or visit www.allairevillage.org.
