An Old-Fashioned Wedding At Allaire Village Sunday

Maria Allaire to marry Thomas Andrews at the historic village in free event

Allaire Village is scheduled to re-create the 176-year-old wedding of Maria Haggerty Allaire on Sunday.

The wedding of Maria Allaire will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the village Chapel. The ceremony will be followed by cake and entertainment in the nearby gazebo. Admission to the event is free.

On June 5, 1836, Maria Allaire wed Thomas Andrews, who managed her father’s Allaire Works in New York City. The wedding re-creation will include a harpist to entertain the guests as the newlyweds depart in a horse-drawn carriage to prepare for their second day travels. It was common at the time for an upper class bride and groom to entertain guests at the home of the bride for up to a month before their “Going Away.”
