Jessica Poland Gets Bye Week On NBC's The Voice

Wall resident lines up for her "battle round''

Wall resident Jessica Poland was spared from having to battle a teammate to keep a spot on NBC's The Voice Monday night.

Poland, who sings under the stage name "Charlotte Sometimes,'' did not sing on Monday's airing of the national singing competition. Two of her teammates, however, were eliminated from the competition during the show's first "battle round.''

In these rounds, singers from the same team advance or are cut from the show based on the performance of a duet.

Poland had her choice of mentors . All four judges were vying for her to join their teams. Poland chose judge Blake Shelton.

"My job as a coach is to hear it, understand it and within the first few lines I knew what I was hearing,'' Shelton said. "I think we're all gravitating toward unique vocalists. And that's what you are.''

Poland, who grew up in north Wall and is a recent graduate of , said she was making a decision she had not thought she would make, picked Shelton as her mentor for the duration of the show.
