Budgets Of All Kinds, Presidents Day and Check Cashing

Fire District, County, State and School district spending plans discussed in the week's news

It was another busy news week this past week, despite a slow start because of the Presidents Day holiday on Monday. There were fire district elections over the weekend last week, where Wall voters trickled into firehouses in each of the three districts to approve each of their budgets, totalling more  than $2 million.

Later, Gov. Chris Christie addressed the state Legislature on his budget proposals, including a $250 million bump in aid to school districts, of particular importance as the township schools debate whether to shutter its oldest school. Still later, county government also released its spending plan.

Despite reservations expressed by several members of the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the panel introduced a $496 million budget Thursday at its regular meeting.
