Lt. Governor Brings 'Open For Business' Tour To Belmar

Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno stops at Federico's Pizza on Main Street

The phone rings nearly constantly at Federico's Pizzeria.

One of numerous employees politely excuses himself as he moves past throngs of media and serious, official-looking people trailing Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno as she converses with restaurant owner David Morin in the kitchen.

It's going on noon, lunchtime for the growing line of nearby St. Rose High School kids trying to get a slice before heading back to class.

It's one of three scheduled stops today for Guadagno as she touts the Jersey Shore's readiness for commerce, despite the blow struck by Hurricane Sandy. Belmar, she announces during her stop, is "open for business." And it means a lot to the 140 small businesses in Belmar.

"You almost can't put a price on what this means to our small business community,'' Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty said. "It benefits Federico's, but her being here benefits all of our small businesses.''

Morin, who has owned Federico's for 17 years, agreed that the Lt. governor's visit carried some import.

"I think this helps to showcase what's going on in town,'' Morin said. "We're back. We're open for business. The beach is going to be back before summer and it's going to be better than ever.''

Guadagno was joined by Doherty and Assemblyman Dave Rible, whose district includes Belmar.

"Businesses had every reason to pull out after the storms,'' Rible said. "But they're not. And that they're not giving up is positive. It's what Jersey is all about.''

Guadagno is also scheduled to make stops in Lavallette and Ship Bottom Wednesday.

It was open for business at taxpayer expense at the Monmouth County Sheriff's Department, where former sheriff, Kim Guadagno , was in charge. Not one politician said a word.

Really, an article from May 14, 2012. Thanks anonymous. Good to see the Open For Business campaign picking up some traction...FYI if you’re in Belmar, La Dolce Vita, Jimmy’s Pizza and 7-11 are all open on the ocean...take appropriate perpendicular street to access them!

I am so happy that Belmar is getting such positive press. It is not an issue of Dems or Reps...or this one or that one ...Its about rebuilding Belmar and letting everyone know we are up and running.Everyone should stop complaining and be a little more positive and strive to get the town up and running. And yes La Dolce Vita is open on Ocean ave and many restaurants in town are open and we will be ready for a GREAT SUMMER... God Bless Belmar

I agree Cindy; however, they could have chosen a better person for this. Guadagno is facing allegations of fraud right now. And yes...long live Belmar!!! We hope your up and running by Memorial Day.

Don't do it. The Patch just wants others to do its job. The Patch reporter was moved to the HowellRead More Patch. Wall no longer has a reporter specifically assigned to our town. No longer do we have a reporter attending meetings and reporting on the important news relating to Wall.
