International award win for both O'Brien locations.

O’Brien Funeral Home has been given a top honors in the funeral industry, winning a 2013 Pursuit of Excellence award.

O’Brien, which operates a location in Wall and one in Brick Township, received the funeral industry’s highest award for both locations, the company announced. Just 153 firms from around the world received the recognition, which honors those homes that adhere to high ethical and professional standards and provide unsurpassed service to families and communities, according to a company release.

To earn the award, a participating funeral home must meet or exceed both funeral and business standards set forth by the program and demonstrate proficiency in key areas of funeral service, such as compliance with state and federal regulations, providing ongoing education and professional development opportunities for staff, offering outstanding programs and resources to bereaved families, maintaining an active level of involvement within the community, participating and actively serving in the funeral service profession, and promoting funeral home services through a variety of marketing, advertising and public relations programs. Participants are also required to adhere to a Pledge of Ethical Practices, the release says.
