Sea Girt Center Stores Donating Portion Of Sales To FoodBank

Today, beginning at 10 a.m., the stores in the center will donate a portion of their sales to help feed the community

Shopping – a purely selfish act wrought with craven self-absorption, right?

Not necessarily.

Today, at Sea Girt Square, shopping will help those who need it most.

Each of the 13 stores at the newly renovated center, located at Route 35 and Ocean Road, will donate a portion of their sales today to the FoodBank of Ocean and Monmouth counties, putting food on the tables of those who need it most at a time when it is most needed.

“We’re hoping to get people excited and support this cause we have going,’’ said Mercedes Wall, of the Carver & Cavero, one of the participating shops. “We’re trying to show that a group of businesses can make a little bit of a difference.’’

Andre Gottesman, owner of the shopping center that sits in the same location where the Wall Library once stood, also will be donating a significant amount to the cause, Wall said.

Each store decides exactly how much it will donate from the day’s receipts. There is no mandatory amount, Wall said.

One of the shops, Ralph’s Italian Ice, will be giving out free Apple Cider Chai from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Carver & Cavreo also will be hosting a tasting during the same hours, Wall said.

Sea Girt Square will open at 10 a.m.
