Retirement Community Collects Turkeys for Monmouth Organizations

Seabrook Turkey Trot benefits Bradley Beach food pantry, Interfaith Neighbors

Residents of the Seabrook retirement community in Tinton Falls recently helped collect turkeys for the underprivileged.

The 14th annual Turkey Trot collected donations for the Bradley Beach Food Pantry and the Monmouth-based Interfaith Neighbors organization.

Participants had the opportunity to choose from one of three walking courses: The Turkey Course, the shorter Chicken Course, or the slightly shorter Cornish Hen Course. Once the walks were completed the turkeys were loaded and shipped out to the organizations.

“This annual event helps two worthwhile organizations fulfill a need that assists those in the county who are struggling,” Seabrook Executive Director Art Sparks said. “It is during the holidays that people usually tend to think about those in need a little bit more, but our residents and staff pride themselves on helping the community throughout the year and gain tremendous satisfaction from ongoing efforts like the Turkey Trot.”

Seabrook Director of Resident Life Gary Engelstad said, “In addition to answering a call for help, the Turkey Trot is an important event at Seabrook because it serves as an activity that contributes to the health and well-being of our residents by allowing them to be active participants and get exercise in a fun and unique way.”

“During the current economic climate it is difficult for some to afford meals and so we take comfort in thinking that we are helping to make for a happier holiday for those in need,” said Judy Seger, Seabrook community services manager.  “An event like the annual turkey trot is a perfect way for the residents and staff of Seabrook to share their gifts with the outside community and help make a holiday brighter for a family in need.”

The Bradley Food Pantry was established in 1982 and the organization is made up of approximately 85 volunteers who serve people throughout Monmouth County.

Interfaith Neighbors, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation founded in May 1988.  Its supporting members number more than 90 religious congregations of varying denominations. In addition, there are hundreds of private donors as well as corporations, charitable gift trusts and foundations.
