Shelter Opened At Neptune High School

Wall shelter at capacity and bus service away from Wall has been suspended

Neptune High School has been opened as an emergency shelter after the center at Wall High School could not accept additional refugees from Hurricane Irene, police said late Saturday.

opened Friday as an emergency shelter, . It was being used as an intake center, as were the two other county shelters, and evacuees were being bused to Neptune and elsewhere, Police Chief Robert Brice said.

But as rain from Hurricane Irene increased, bus service to Neptune was stopped. Those in need of shelter for the night will have to get to Neptune High School, 55 Neptune Blvd., Neptune, on their own, Brice said.

The first choice, he said, should be neighbors, friends or relatives.

Bill Heine, Monmouth County spokesman, earlier Saturday said the other two county shelters at Holmdel High School, 36 Crawford’s Corner Rd., Holmdel and Colts Neck High School, 59 Five Points Road, were being used only as intake centers.

Evacuees were then being taken to "undisclosed locations,'' he said.
