Summer Events in the Week Ahead

The thick of summer brings with it lots of fun for the area, both indoors and out.

The Algonquin will be thick with foot stomping and hand clapping this week as And The Devil Makes Three come to town. Help welcome this ragtime-blues-punk-Americana band to the theater July 24 and join in their highly singable, stomp-able tunes. It's hard not to become part of their growing fanbase after hearing their cover of "Saint James Infirmary" or an original such as "Old Number Seven." The Devil Makes Three bridges genres with deft; so whether you appreciate the slap of the upright bass, the pluck of the bango or the fiercely picked acoustic guitar, the band provides a live show that can't be missed.

Though The Devil Makes Three have graced other local venues recently such as The Wonder Bar in Asbury Park, the trio is on tour and is only at The Algonquin in Manasquan July 24. Hurry and get your tickets now as seats are cheaper before the day of the show. More info here.

Looking for a free concert? The John Luckenbill Band returns to Belmar at Pyanoe Plaza on Monday nights in July and August at 8 p.m. The rain location for this event will be the Calvary Baptist Church.

Another gem of a free concert will come to Belmar via the concerts on the beach series. Songwriters on the Beach will feature local treasure Nicole Atkins and Frank Lombardi. Atkins sweeping, rousing vocals on "Maybe Tonight" leave no room for doubt this is one beach concert not to be missed. Whether early songs from her Neptune City album or more recently Mondo Amore and the coming Slow Phaser albums, Atkins' critically acclaimed songs should light up the 5th Avenue Beach. Concert is 7 to 10 p.m. July 25.

Allaire Village tells us some heated opinions from 1836 will surface Sunday with the historical village's Temperance Rally event. Check it out 1-3 p.m. in the Historic Village of Allaire. More info here.
