LBI Lifeguards To Stay On In Off Season

Barnegat/Manahawkin- Beach Haven Beach Patrol Captain Mike Lawrence’s statement after observing Friday’s crowded beaches may be prophetic for this fall.

“It looks like nobody left and more are coming,” he said.

To help ensure their safety, Beach Haven, along with Long Beach Township and Ship Bottom will be providing limited service into September.

Long Beach Township Beach Patrol Supervisor Don Myers said on Friday: “Weather permitting; 68th Street in Brant Beach will be guarded through Sept. 10."

Phantom Motorcyclist Of Route 9 Facing 'Dozens' of Other Charges

Berkely-  who eluded police officers from four towns as he roared down Route 9 at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour recently is facing "dozens" of other charges, Berkeley Township Detective James J. Smith said.

Christopher Lane - who defiantly gave police officers the finger as he sped down Route 9 during rush hour - will also be charged separately by the Berkeley, Pine Beach, Beachwood and South Toms River police departments, Smith said.

Tweedle Dee: A Wonderland of Antiques

Fair Haven- It's not Alice's wonderland, but for antiques enthusiasts, a trip down the rabbit hole into a fantasy 'tiquing world at Tweedle Dee Antiques & Such can be a dream venture come true.

Owned by  resident Laura Kent, the shop opened its doors in mid-August at 810 River Road, Fair Haven.

The 1,500-square-foot rented space formerly housed The Berry Patch and Barefoot Bride, and although additions were done during the 1960s, the building dates from the 1800s, ideal for an antique shop.

Swastikas Painted Around Manalapan Neighborhood 

Manalapan- Spray painted symbols of swastikas were found on road signs and similar defamatory graffiti were found on approximately 12 houses in the Monmouth Heights neighborhood of Manalapan Township on Thursday, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Grammiccioni.

The graffiti was found solely in the area of Route 9 and Taylors Mills Road, Grammiccioni said. The Prosecutor’s office was made aware of the defacement  at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Thursday and an investigation immediately began.

Little Silver Councilman Loses Battle With Cancer

Little Silver — Jonathan Bitman, who served as a councilman in Little Silver for nine years and was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in November 2011, died Tuesday morning. Mayor Robert Neff, Jr. said in an e-mail, "Little Silver had no more devoted servant. His love for his town was exceeded only by his love for Dale and the girls, and his friends and family."
