Where We're Headed

Our recent school election and the aftermath.

I want to thank Wall Patch for offering this forum for us to express our thoughts, ideas and beliefs.  I believe it will be a useful vehicle for getting issues and matters out that may not otherwise be reported and may not necessarily be newsworthy.

With that said, as my first order of business, I would like to congratulate the taxpayers of Wall Township on passing the school budget and the second questions allowing our custodians to keep their jobs.  I would also like to congratulate Joe Tonzola, Anne Moonan, Robin Cervantes and John Tavis on their Board of Education victories.

However, the work has only just begun.  I know, as most of those with whom I have spoken, that these new members along with the board veterans will make decisions based upon what they believe is right.  No board member is or should be beholden to or guided by anyone, except their own conscience.

While I understand some animosity grew during the campaign with some spilling over to the reorganization meeting Tuesday night, I am sure that the newcomers and veterans on the board of ed (and the supporters of each group) will find a way to get along.  We, as voters, depend on it because real work needs to get done.  Making spurrious charges, claims and allegations against one or many serves no purpose other than to detract from the important business that these people have been elected to conduct.

With that, I ask, in the immortal words of Rodney King: "Can we all get along?"

So, let's put the pettiness behind us, act like the adults that our kids would be proud of, and get to the business of improving our schools in the best way possible.
