Vote NOTA (None Of The Above) for Wall Township Committee

Labor Day is the traditional start of the election campaign season.  But without Democratic or Independent candidates, there won’t be a local campaign for Wall Township Committee. That’s sad, because people may not vote at all without a local government race.  And that would be wrong – for two reasons.

First, there are other election races besides the Township Committee – including the school board, county freeholders & sheriff, state assembly & senate, and the Governor.  There are choices for those positions, so you do need to vote to make your voices heard.

Secondly, Wall Committee GOP incumbent candidates Foster and Hoffman (and the entire GOP Township Committee for that matter) need to know Wall residents are not happy with their leadership and arrogance, the service levels, and the increased local tax levy they have burdened us with. You can, and should, protest what this one-party government has done.  The way to do that is to vote – but just not for them.  You have options to show your displeasure with the Township Committee. You can choose not vote for Township Committee at all, or you can write in a name – yours, someone else’s, or even Mickey Mouse’s!  The idea is to show the Committee we are not satisfied with what they have done.  A look at the past 10 year township budget and local tax levy history shows just how bad things are with this one-party rule.  In 2003 the Wall budget was $24.2 million. By 2013 the budget has ballooned to $35.2 million – an $11 million increase!  That’s a 45% increase in the budget over the past 10 years!  If that wasn’t bad enough on its own, look at what’s happened to the Wall local tax levy over the same 10 year period.  In 2003 the local tax levy was $13.9 million.  Now in 2013, it’s a whopping $25.6 million – an $11.7 million increase!  That’s an 83.5% increase in the local taxes you pay!  Our taxes have gone up more than the budget!  Our taxes have nearly doubled!  And what do we get for all these increased taxes?  Less services, less transparency, less public participation.  The one thing that has increased in addition to our local taxes is the Committee’s arrogance and attitude towards residents.  We must send a message to the Township Committee on election day.  THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE IS GREATER THAN THOSE IN POWER.  Show the Township Committee the power of the people by not voting for them on election day.
