A treasure in Sea Girt

  • If you are interested in New Jersey military history, you should visit the National Guard Militia Museum of New Jersey in Sea Girt, located in the Sea Girt National Guard Training Center. The museum tells the story of New Jersey as seen through the eyes of its military, from the earliest explorers to current operations in Afghanistan. Exhibits feature uniforms, weapons, artifacts, maps and photos, interpreted by a comprehensive narrative. One feature of the exhibit hall is the only Civil War artillery piece mounted on a carriage in a museum in the state of New Jersey.

  • The museum is open to the public seven days a week (closed on official state holidays) and professional staff and docents are available to assist the visitor.  The museum is also home to the Veterans Oral History Program, administered in conjunction with the Library of Congress. Veterans of all wars are interviewed and presented with DVD copies of their interviews. As of the date of this writing, museum staff have interviewed 500 veterans, from World War II, Korea and Vietnam to post 9/11 operations.
