Presidential Visit to Sea Girt, Impeachment Hearings & Minimum Wage Hike
Today in New Jersey history:
July 24, 1902: President Theodore Roosevelt visited New Jersey governor Franklin Murphy at the National Guard Camp at Sea Girt and reviewed the Guardsmen conducting their annual training there. Thousands cheered Roosevelt as his train traveled south and more than ten thousand people flocked to the little seaside town to see the immensely popular president.
July 24, 1974: New Jersey Congressman Peter Rodino, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, opened up public hearings in Washington DC on the impeachment of President Richard Nixon.
July 24, 2009: New Jersey raised its minimum wage to $7.25 an hour.
