The Previous "Storm of the Century."

Today in New Jersey history:

March 6, 1962: A great storm brought snow, sleet, wind and tides ten feet above normal to the Jersey Shore. Before the winds and tides abated, millions of tons of sand were shifted, shorelines changed and new inlets were carved across the narrow, sandy barrier islands off the coast. Long Beach Island was hit particularly hard, with communities such as Harvey Cedars and Loveladies completely cut off from the outside world.
