Central School’s Walk-A-Thon 2014 Raises $4,300 For Emmanuel Cancer Foundation

Last week, Central Association of Parents and Educators (C.A.P.E) proudly announced that Central School students raised more than $4,300 at their Annual Walk-A-Thon 2014. The event was held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the school grounds under threatening, overcast skies and humid conditions. The weather forecast for the day was for rain, and lots of it.  Mother nature, however, didn’t diminish the children’s or staff’s excitement and enthusiasm to participate in the Walk-A-Thon.

On the day of the walk, the children were encouraged to wear red, white, and blue colored clothing and walked distances according to their grade levels. Students in Kindergarten through Grade 2 walked for approximately 30 minutes and children in Grades 3rd through 5th walked for 45 minutes.  Fortunately, the threat of rain held off until all the students had an opportunity to participate in the Walk-A-Thon.

Central School students continued the spirit of giving and civic responsibility as they walked together for a common goal. Leading up to the event, students were asked to obtain as many sponsors as possible, such as family members, friends, and neighbors.  In doing so, they raised over $4,300. All raised funds will be donated to the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation (ECF). ECF provides a variety of specialized services, at no charge, to any New Jersey family facing the challenges of caring for a child with cancer. ECF ‘s services include: professional in-home counseling, advocacy for families, material support such as food, clothing, toys, etc., and emergency financial assistance.
