A Brielle woman who lead police on a high-speed chase through a residential neighborhood in a stolen car was arrested in the early morning hours of Monday morning, authorities said.
Teresa Meakem, 19, was stopped by Wall Police around 1:36 a.m. for a traffic violation. Police were unaware at the time that the car she was driving was stolen sometime after midnight or that Meakem had $4,500 in outstanding warrants, Sgt. Heath Bono said.
While police were talking to Meakem, she sped off, nearly hitting the officers, and raced through the Sea Girt Estates neighborhood at high speed, Bono said.
Meakem ditched the car on Lincris Lane, where it was later found, Bono said.
Meakem was later found at her mother’s house in Brielle, where she was arrested and charged with stealing the car, eluding, hindering and obstruction, Bono said.
Meakem was taken to Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township, in lieu of $60,000 bail, Bono said.
