Carjacking Suspect Indicted In Shop-Rite Incident

Pennsylvania man arrested in February is indicted by Grand Jury

The man suspected of carjacking a Tinton Falls resident in the parking lot of the Route 34 Shop-Rite last year as been indicted by a grand jury, according to court documents.

The formal charge of carjacking was handed up Wednesday for Jonathan Garcia, 20, of East Stroudsburg, Pa. 

The indictment stems from a Sept. 16, 2010, incident in the parking lot of the grocery store at Route 34 and Lakewood Road.

A Tinton Falls man was loading his groceries into a 2009 silver Pontiac G6 when a man police believe was Garcia jumped into the car and threatened to shoot the owner if he did not get out, police have said.

The Pontiac was found two months later in Brooklyn by the NYPD, police have said.

Wall Township Police Detectives Victor O’Rourke and Heath Bono conducted a forensic examination of the car as part of their four-month investigation, collecting evidence that led to the arrest, the release said.

On Dec. 15, an arrest warrant was issued for Garcia, whose last known address was in Staten Island, charging him with 1st degree car jacking. The charge carries a sentece of 10 to 30 years in prison, police have said.
