Central Avenue Fire Ruled Accidental

West Belmar home uninhabitable from Wednesday's blaze

The fire that gutted a West Belmar bungalow and sent a boy to the hospital was ruled accidental Thursday, police said.

The investigation into the cause of was accidentally caused by cooking in the home, according to Wall Police Lt. Walter Pomphrey.

Detectives, Fire Bureau and the Monmouth County Fire Marshals Office concluded their investigation just one day after the fire broke out around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, quickly ripping through the small yellow home.

One unnamed boy was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune Township, but was later released, Pomphrey said.

Pomphrey did not say whether the boy was alone at the time of the fire or if he was the one cooking.

The home remains uninhabitable, Pomphrey said.
