CODE RED: Reverse 9-1-1 System Free For Township Residents

Police notification system to get word out about emergency situations

With Gov. Chris Christie issuing a state of emergency Thursday ahead of Hurricane Irene, township residents who have not already signed up for the Code Red emergency information system, might want to do so.

The system not only helps residents keep informed, but it also frees up police dispatchers to handle more emergency calls rather than field public inquiries, Ihnken has said.

Residents can sign up for the alerts by going to the police department’s website, and Deputy Mayor Jeff Foster has said he encourages all residents to do so.
