Point Pleasant woman avoids collision, but leaves road

A Point Pleasant woman was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after swerving to avoid a collision on Route 34 and running into a retention basin, police said.

The woman, who police did not identify, was driving a 2004 Jeep Cherokee northbound on Route 34 just north of Lakewood Road around 2 p.m. when she swerved to avoid a vehicle who came into her lane, Sgt. Pete Lokerson said.

The 54-year-old woman lost control of the jeep and came to a stop at the bottom of a retention basin in front of the Growing Tree Preschool, Lokerson said.
