Farmingdale Man Charged In String Of Car Burglaries

60 counts pending, more coming from other towns

Police have nabbed a man they say is behind a recent spate of car burglaries in town dating back a month.

Rodney Tyler, 19, has been charged with nine counts of burglary and nine counts of theft after he was found with property stolen from unlocked vehicles in the Presidents Streets neighborhood Friday, according to a release from Lt. Walter Pomphrey.

The neighborhood is located off Belmar Blvd between New Bedford Road and Route 18. In those burglaries items were stolen from unlocked cars.

A second man is sought in connection with the burgalries. Jeffrey C. Tyler, 22, of Neptune, is wanted on nine counts of burglary and nine counts of theft. He will also be charged with an additional 51 counts, Pomphrey said.

Wall Police were alerted to the pair around 2:30 a.m. Friday by a resident on Arthur Street reporting a burglary in progress. The two fled on foot after the homeowner confronted them, Pomphrey said.

But the pair parked a gold 2002 PT Cruiser on Monmouth Boulevard, Pomphrey said. Police arrested Rodney Tyler when he returned to the car.

The PT Cruiser contained more stolen items. It has been seized, Pomphrey said.

Wall Police also found a stolen handgun and a shotgun that were taken from Neptune and Shrewsbury, Pomphrey said.

Police in Ocean Township, Spring Lake, Rumson, Tinton Falls, Avon, Neptune, Shrewsbury, Belmar and Deal all were investigating similar burlgaries. Charges are expected from each of those municipalities, Pomphrey said.

At least three of those towns -- Rumson, Spring Lake and Tinton Falls -- have filed charges against Rodney Tyler, who is being held at the Monmouth County Jail, Freehold, in lieu of a combined bail amount of $131,300.
